Why Benehealth's Nutrition Program
Despite advancements in medicine and technology, the United States continues to struggle with worsening health statics. Currently 60% of Americans have a diagnosis of one chronic disease, and 40% have two or more. Chronic diseases such as heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, autoimmune disease, lung disease, etc. are the leading cause of death and disability in the US and account for the majority of the United State’s 4.1 TRILLION dollars of annual health expenditure. So the question you may be asking is, how do we spend so much, but have such high rates of disease? Simply put, it’s because our current healthcare system is focused more on reactive treatment of conditions once they show up, rather than preventing them in the first place.
According to the Global burden of disease, the primary cause of Chronic disease is related to modifiable lifestyle behaviors, indicating that much of the health care burden in the United state is actually preventable. Chronic disease, can be more appropriately classified as lifestyle disease, as the behavior you engage in on a daily basis, is the largest determinant of overall healthstate.
Knowing where to start when it comes to “being healthy”, is a real challenge in today’s information era. It can feel as though the information is always changing and even contradicting at times.
