6 Skin Rejuvenation Tips for Your Skin Concerns | West Valley Natural Skin Health

Are you struggling with acne?

Has your dewy complexion been replaced by dull, rough skin?

Maybe you’re seeing signs of sun damage and aging in the form of fine lines, loose skin, and age spots?

If so, we understand how difficult it can be –  your skin is the first thing others notice about you. It’s also the barrier that protects you from the environment.

If your skin barrier is damaged and your complexion looks lackluster, it does more than just knock your confidence – it compromises your health.

At Benehealth Wellness and Aesthetics, we take a holistic, natural approach to skincare. In this article, we’ll guide you through 6 steps to rejuvenate your skin and regain your healthy, radiant glow. Let’s dive in.

1. It Starts on the Inside

Taking an inside-out approach is the first step to glowing skin. As your body’s largest organ, your skin is dependent on the quality of your diet.

Your diet provides the building blocks for your cells. So, it’s essential to eat a wide variety of whole foods to maximize your intake of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. This supports optimal digestion and encourages efficient detoxification – all vital for radiant skin.

Nutritional supplements encourage a healthy complexion by bridging potential gaps in your diet. Oral and topical antioxidants can neutralize free radicals that attack your delicate skin cells.

Here are some of the nutrients we recommend to protect your skin:

  • Antioxidants like vitamin A, C, E, selenium, and zinc are essential for youthful-looking skin. They protect you from the daily onslaught of free radicals from sun damage, pollution, environmental toxins, chronic stress, and poor dietary choices.¹ They can be obtained by eating brightly colored fruits and vegetables, leafy greens, whole grains, legumes, oily fish, nuts, and seeds. You can also add an antioxidant supplement to your daily routine.
  • Vitamin C and zinc are essential for the production of collagen, a structural protein that gives skin elasticity and strength.² You can boost your vitamin C and zinc levels by consuming plenty of citrus fruits, berries, tomatoes, broccoli, green leafy vegetables, seafood, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds.
  • Omega-3 essential fatty acids promote supple skin but are likely missing from your diet if you don’t eat oily fish, nuts, and seeds. These anti-inflammatory fats maintain skin hydration, helping reduce skin sensitivity and improve smoothness.3,4 Taking fish oil or flaxseed oil is an easy way to get more Omega-3s in your diet.
  • Biotin is often known as the “hair and skin” vitamin. Without this nutrient, you may experience a dry, dull complexion. You can get biotin from a high-quality multivitamin and mineral supplement and by eating more eggs, dairy products, cauliflower, avocado, berries, fish, and nuts. Benehealth offers highly absorbent and effective supplements at a great price. Ask your Benehealth practitioner to learn more!

Finally, don’t ignore hydration. Drinking two liters of pure water daily can make a huge difference in how your skin looks and feels.⁵ Getting adequate hydration flushes toxins from your body and deeply hydrates your skin cells.

Remember, even seemingly safe supplements can be harmful if taken improperly. Be sure you’re working with a practitioner for proper dosing and medical monitoring.

2. Get Moving

Living a sedentary life and neglecting exercise is bad news for all aspects of health – including your skin.

The rosy glow you get during exercise happens when capillaries in your skin dilate, forcing blood to the surface. This allows more nutrients and oxygen to reach the skin. Regular exercise also enhances lymphatic drainage and stimulates digestion, helping to rid your body of skin-congesting toxins.

We’re not suggesting you set hours aside to spend at the gym. Instead, try moving for 30 minutes per day in a way you truly enjoy. You can take a gentle walk in nature, go for a swim, cycle, dance, or take a yoga class.

3. Do No Harm

Your skin is a sensitive organ. Free radicals and toxins from smoking, alcohol consumption, environmental pollutants, and pesticides easily damage your skin.

These offenders deplete antioxidant levels, dehydrate your skin, damage blood vessels, and promote chronic inflammation.⁶ This can lead to facial wrinkles, fine lines, and under-eye puffiness.⁷ In short, these exposures can make you look older than you are.

Here’s how you can minimize your exposure to skin-damaging toxins and maintain a healthy barrier:

  • Take steps to quit smoking and reach out for support. If you’re not a smoker, be aware of your exposure to second-hand smoke.
  • Eat organic produce when possible. Read the “Clean Fifteen and Dirty Dozen” list from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) to see which fruits and vegetables are the most significant pesticide offenders.
  • Limit your alcohol consumption and focus on drinking more water and herbal teas.

Making these small changes will add up over time and protect your skin as you age.

4. Protect Your Armour

If you want to keep your skin looking young, sunblock is a non-negotiable part of your daily skincare routine. This is especially true of the face and neck, which are especially susceptible to sun damage and early signs of aging.

Quality sunblock protects you from:

  • UVA rays – responsible for aging the skin
  • UVB rays – which cause sunburn and increase your risk of developing skin cancer.

Come rain or shine, whether you’re at the beach or in the office, apply a broad-spectrum UVA/ UVB sunblock with an SPF of 30 or higher. Your sunblock should be free from harsh chemicals like oxybenzone, octinoxate, homosalate, octocrylene, and benzophenone-3. According to the EWG, these ingredients have been linked to skin irritation and may have hormone-disrupting properties when absorbed into the bloodstream.⁸

Using wide-brimmed hats is another great way to reduce sun exposure on the face and neck.

While sun protection is important, there are immense benefits to having some natural sun exposure. The benefits we get from the sun include:

  • Vitamin D production
  • Mitochondria/cellular support
  • Circadian rhythm regulation

So you shouldn’t shun the sun completely. Understanding the best time of day to get your rays is important. The sun’s UV rays are the strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. So it’s best to limit your sun exposure during these hours.

Lifestyle Tip: Sunblock will prevent the active ingredients in your skincare products from penetrating the skin barrier. So apply sunscreen to your face and neck after your morning skincare routine, but before applying your makeup.

If you’re in the sun for a long period, reapply sunblock every 2 hours and wear a hat for extra protection.

5. Nourish and Replenish

Your skin is a living organism that needs to be nourished from the outside, as well as the inside. It’s important to replenish your skin with hydration and nutrients from healthy at-home skincare routines.

However, not all skincare products are created equal. Be mindful to only use non-toxic products with organic ingredients as close to nature as possible. The reason for this? Well, your skin is a semi-permeable barrier, absorbing much of what you apply to it. Sadly, according to the EWG, the FDA doesn’t strictly regulate the skincare industry. Many skin products contain a cocktail of carcinogenic chemicals and chemicals that may mimic estrogen in the body.⁹

Read the labels carefully and cross-reference your products with the EWG Skin Deep database to ensure they’re safe.

Steer clear of the following toxins:

  • Parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben, butylparaben)
  • Phthalates (dibutyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate, dimethyl phthalate)
  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
  • Ethanolamine
  • Polyethylene glycol
  • Propylene glycol
  • Formaldehyde
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Mineral oil
  • Butylene glycol
  • Butylated hydroxytoluene
  • Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA)
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)
  • Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES)
  • Ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS)
  • Triclosan
  • Bisphenol A (BPA)

Reducing your toxin exposure will help promote clear skin, soothe irritation, and limit your body’s overall inflammation and toxic burden.

6. Repair and Rejuvenate

Going for regular professional skin treatments takes your skin results to the next level. If you have problem areas, there’s simply no replacement for support from a licensed skincare professional.

BH Radiance, our regenerative aesthetic program, offers minimally invasive medical treatments designed to repair, replenish, and truly rejuvenate your skin. Rather than artificially creating surface-level improvements, we focus on treatments that actually heal your skin’s damage at the cellular level.

Here are some of our popular treatments that enhance cell renewal, stimulate collagen synthesis, and slow the signs of aging:

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

IPL therapy uses light energy to encourage younger, clearer skin without harsh ingredients. By gently pulsating the skin with different light wavelengths, IPL increases collagen production and stimulates cell regeneration. It’s ideal for erasing signs of sun damage, blemishes, fine lines, and age spots.

Microneedling

Do you want to firm up your skin and minimize wrinkles, sunspots, and scars? If the answer is yes, microneedling can help.

Microneedling involves gently puncturing the skin’s surface using very fine needles. This creates microscopic wounds to the skin’s dermis, triggering collagen synthesis and a cascade of healing processes. Plus, we combine active ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid with microneedling to supercharge the healing benefits. We also go one step further with Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

PRP therapy is a skin treatment that uses your own blood plasma. Rich in natural growth factors, PRP therapy kickstarts skin cell regeneration for plump, supple skin. Freshly spun plasma is applied to your face after a microneedling session to facilitate delivery into the skin cells. Using PRP along with microneedling may also help soothe inflammation, reducing your skin’s recovery time after treatment. Learn more about PRP and PRF…

Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy is a gentle, non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment. Infrared light delivers red light wavelengths to your skin to stimulate collagen production. It evens out your complexion, stimulates wound healing, and minimizes scarring. Plus, red light therapy is a powerful anti-inflammatory that’s been shown to heal acne lesions.¹⁰

Benehealth offers a variety of bespoke medi-facials using only naturally-derived, medical-grade ingredients. Our chemical peels slough off dead skin cells, stimulate collagen production, and improve the texture of your skin.
